Intelligent and Sustainable Communities International Forum “Fazer Cidades – Placemaking”

The "smart city" implies the idea of transforming today's cities into creative urban spaces to provide smart and sustainable development.

The aim is to improve the citizens' quality of life and improve the efficiency and quality of the services provided by authorities and companies. This perspective requires an integrated vision of the city and its infrastructures, providing ICT services and applications to the citizens, companies and authorities that are part of it.

Integrating infrastructure through technology helps cities to improve their efficiency, economic potential, reduce costs, attract new businesses and services, and improve the citizens' lives.

A smart city must be creative and sustainable, make use of technology in its planning process with the participation of citizens, experts, mayors, opinion leaders and technology companies. To present an integrated and transversal vision of the main advances for the intelligent, sustainable and development of regions and municipalities, Armis ITS, represented by the ITS Director Luís Baptista, was present in FICIS 2017 - International Forum of Intelligent and Sustainable Communities "Fazer Cidades - Placemaking", which took place in Braga, between the 18th and 20th of April.

Carlos Costa, Administrator of Armis, highlighted the relevance of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), their trends and innovations that seem capable of shaping the functioning of cities in the near future.

According to the 2010/40 / EU Directive, the European Community should adopt by 2017 (functional, technical and organizational) specifications to ensure the compatibility and interoperability of ITS solutions in Europe. The first priorities are traffic information and passenger information systems, emergency systems and intelligent parking.

Armis ITS represents Portugal and actively participates in several European study groups in the standards definition and guides for the ITS services implementation. It is based on these standards and guides that the new generation of ITS solutions and products for the transports area are developed.

Those are the solutions that enable the integration of the infrastructure and improve the people and goods mobility, increasing safety and reducing environmental impact.
