GOALS AND EXPECTED RESULTS

Be.Neutral seeks to position Portugal as an exporter of cyber-physical zero-carbon mobility products to cities around the world. Its design arose from an opportunity to develop, industrialise, and operate new mobility products and services (physical devices, connectivity and data science platforms) that are able to quantify the emissions avoided in real time so as to accelerate carbon neutrality by 2030.

The participation of ARMIS focuses seeks to develop an integrated first/last-mile mobility hub system. The proposed system consists of a network of modular and flexible infrastructures that aggregate demand for sustainable mobility services in cities. These infrastructures promote the adoption of eco-friendly and shared mobility modes, complementing public transportation. Additionally, the system is highly digital and provides easy access to real-time information about mobility services through interactive solutions.

The mobility hub is multifunctional, modular, scalable, sustainable, and offers a variety of services, including public transportation information and user experience enhancements.

GOALS AND EXPECTED RESULTS

Route 25 aims to "position Portugal at the forefront of intelligent and inclusive transportation technologies." This project leverages research and development of disruptive technological solutions for Autonomous, Intelligent, Interoperable, and Inclusive Mobility, creating a new value chain in Portugal in high-tech activities and territorial cohesion, generating €80 million in sales and 488 jobs.

Route 25 is based on areas of intervention that will result in the introduction of 47 innovative and disruptive PPS into the market. ARMIS' participation focuses on 3 PPS with the goal of 1) promoting and redesigning traffic management and energy efficiency architectures, 2) improving the quality of navigation services and flexibility of traffic management measures, and 3) enhancing support for automated vehicles to provide guidance on the road network's readiness for the next era of road automation.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

The GPDER+ project aims to research and develop a SCADA/DMS System dedicated to the Predictive Management of the Distribution Network (high and medium voltage) and a Platform for Demand Response Management System (DRMS) that allows the implementation of new business models for the Management of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) operated by different entities (e.g., aggregators, retailers, consumer cooperatives). The platforms to be developed will be prepared to deal with the specificities of the Distribution Networks, namely high integration on a renewable basis and flexible resources. To this end, functional and non-functional technical requirements necessary for the integration of flexibility in the electricity market and system operation will be taken into account, providing the Distribution Grid Operator with greater monitoring and predictive control of the electricity grid and the integration of new business models based on the sale of flexibility to the Distribution Grid Operator.

The innovative and differentiating character of the GPDER+ solution comes from the proposed development logic - Predictive Management of the Distribution Networks, taking into account the modelling of uncertainty associated with renewable energy sources, ensuring interoperability between the systems of the Distribution Network Operator and new business models dedicated to the management of distributed electrical resources. Replicability is also a critical objective in the design of the solutions, demonstrating, for this fundamental purpose, the adoption of IEC standards, the development of computational applications for networks with reduced monitoring of the measures at the transformation stations and the integration of different types of RSD (namely distributed storage).

It is intended to revisit EFACEC's SCADA/DMS solution by providing it with greater robustness and scalability to the system, new functionalities, at the level of core modules, and applications for network operation. A DRMS platform will also be developed for two business models in the active management of consumption: a) cooperative consisting of normal and special low voltage consumers, adding flexibility at the transformer station level; b) commercialise essentially aimed at industrial customers and buildings connected at high and medium voltage.

PROJECT NAME:

Protection, Automation and Control of Centralized Scalable Network

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

The SCALE project aims to centralize the control, management, protection and monitoring of MT networks in a high-performance virtual solution, with high reliability, resilience and security, challenging the current substation architectures and constituting a significant innovation in the energy sector.

The SCALE project envisions the creation of a highly innovative solution for control, protection, management and monitoring of medium voltage (MV) networks absolutely innovative compared to current systems, by unifying functionality on a digital platform, reliable and resilient. This undertaking aims at a conceptual revolution in the protection, operation control and security systems of substations and MV energy networks, by designing and developing an infrastructure, applications and centralized control and protection services platform, aimed at redesigning the architecture of current energy substations in the context of Smart Grids. It will be a system capable of enabling interaction between the central system and all the information made available at the substation and MV grid level. This new architecture will allow versatile, scalable, more secure, and easily upgradable solutions.

OBJECTIVES:

The SCALE project thus presents seven specific objectives:

  • Develop and demonstrate a centralized protection, automation and control infrastructure, supported on a generic hardware platform and virtualization solutions. The solution will integrate management software for multiple virtual IEDs, with the goal of replacing the secondary equipment in the substation in a Smart Grid context;

  • Design a new merging unit type product, including sensing and actuation at the process level, following a low cost approach, and able to provide optimized advanced communications based on IEC 61850 standards;

  • Develop components integrated with the infrastructure software, and define test methodologies to ensure, in this same centralized infrastructure, the security of access, data and communications;

  • Develop advanced features for protection and advanced automation and distributed MV network, which contribute to the active and safe management of the network in scenarios of high integration of renewable resources. The proposed functionalities will allow reducing the service restoration time as well as the customers affected by service interruptions;

  • Specify suitable methods for the testing and commissioning of the proposed centralized solution;

  • Validate and demonstrate, in an advanced simulation environment and in a real network, a set of new approaches to the protection of primary assets in substations supported by the CPC (Centralized Protection and Control) infrastructure, particularly in adaptive and self-healing applications

  • To technically and economically evaluate the impact of the implementation of the project and the results achieved in the sector, achieving a first industrial pilot solution.
